March 11th in 2011

The unexpected phenomenon has happened in Japan.
It has been about 1 week since the tragic disaster, earthquake hit.
It has changed everything.
I cannot grab my feelings for this week and still don't know what to do.

I am not going to write what happened and what we should do specifically, because it would be in vain.
This disaster often reminds me of what my teacher teaching me English in Canada said.

"Just keep it simple."

I thought too much as if it was complicated when I tried to speak and write English.
She told me; "I know what you mean, but you can keep it sipmpler."
I could say this is something in common about life in Toronto.

I didn't see many products in supermarkets and also didn't have choices using services.
It sounds inconvenient, but I didn't need to think of choosing bunch of services I didn't even use.

The current situation in Japan is like Toronto, such as stocks and lights in supermarkets.
I didn't see any of them open after 8:00 PM.
Only stores doing business are McDonald or night clubs.

I was really sick of surplus services in Japan when coming back here.
However, I almost forgot it because it is convenient and without any trouble.

Am I happier in Japan than in Toronto? No, I am not at this point.

とてつもない出来事が起こってしまった。
地震から約1週間が経過。
すべてが1週間前と変わってしまった。
この1週間、まったく気持ちが宙に漂ってしまっていて、
いまだに落ち着かない。

何が起こって、何をしなければならないといったことは月並みになってしまうので、ここでは書かない。
震災後から、英語を習っていたカナダ人に言われていた言葉をよく思い出す。

"Just keep it simple."

英文を考えるとき、難しく考えすぎてしまう。
言いたいことはわかるけど、もっとシンプルに出来るんじゃない？とよく言われた。
これはトロントの生活に関しても、共通していたこと。

スーパーも過剰にものがあふれていないし、様々なサービスに関しても選択肢が少ない。
不便なことに思われるかもしれないけれど、選択肢が少ないからよけいに考えなくてもいい。

今のスーパーの在庫とか、電気の点灯状況ってトロントの街と同じよう。
向こうで20時以降も営業しているスーパーなんてない。
営業してるのは、マクドナルドとクラブぐらい。

帰国した直後は過剰なサービスにあふれた日本に嫌気がさしていた。
でも、いつのまにかその心地よさにつかりすぎて、この頃のことを忘れかけていた。

便利な日本の生活の方が幸せに感じるか？いや、上記内容に関しては違うと答える。

"New Beat" by Toro Y Moi gives this MIX so much inspiration...

また個人的に80sがあつい。
でも、2000年代中期に流行った、NewWave的なものとはまた違う、ソウルフルなものに心惹かれています。
ベースがぶりっとなっているところに、ソウルフルなシンセがのっかるだけで、ご飯3杯はいけます。
80sから去年に出た新譜を織り交ぜたMIX。

そしてこのタイミングで出たToro Y Moiの新曲。



完全にこの曲にやられました。
このMIXにいれられないことが悔やまれます。

久々に見た素晴らしいドキュメンタリー映画。

パタゴニアの旅で語られる、すべてのエピソードがこのタイトルにつながっている。
変な日本語のタイトルを付けられなくてよかった、ほんとに。

ただ「地球を守ろう」なんて、白々しいメッセージになっていない点がすばらしい。
モアイ像の話が一番考えさせられました。
